Bobber 500 Helium 5G Gateway

Bobber 500 Helium 5G Gateway is not designed for outdoor use, and the small cell should be used as directed (e.g., outdoor or indoor). Because the Bobber 500 runs on FreedomFi software, they can use indoor or outdoor small cells as long as they are certified by FreedomFi to work with their gateway and are compatible with our Bobber 500.

Small Cells have a substantially lesser range of coverage than LoRa. A Small Cell will have around three times the reach of an enterprise Wi-Fi access point. In line-of-sight situations, outdoor radios with sector antennas can go up to 5-7 miles. Because the CBRS frequency spectrum is 3.5-3.7Ghz, it does not have the ability to penetrate walls or trees well in no-light-of-sight (NLOS) conditions, coverage will be drastically decreased.

Indoor public venues such as shopping malls, hotels, stadiums, hospitals, airports, and university campuses are the finest places to deploy a Bobber 500 Helium 5G. Unless you place the small cell near a public venue, few people will be able to connect to it. We anticipate seeing certified outdoor small cells that will plug and play with the Bobber 500 in the near future.

Keep in mind that the Indoor Small Cell will need to gain a GPS lock before it can start radiating the signal. There are a number of free phone apps available to verify GPS reception at a certain place, which we recommend you do ahead of time.

Your Indoor Small Cell will include a built-in GPS receiver as well as a 6-foot long external GPS extension cord that may be stretched towards a window or placed outdoors.

All of our antennas in stock are 4dBi. The antenna’s length is proportional to the frequency band’s wavelength. Because the 470 mHz frequency wavelength is about double that of 915 mHz, the CN 470 stock antenna is correspondingly longer than the US/EU stock antenna.

Bobber Miner 500

CBRS Radios from Third Parties
Because the Bobber 500 is powered by FreedomFi software, it may be used with any indoor or outdoor small cell that has been validated by FreedomFi as being plug and play with their Helium 5G-compatible gateway.

Radios with WiFi
While the initial version of Bobber 500 Helium 5G will only support mobile data offloading via Small Cell, we hope to add support for data offloading via Wi-Fi access points in the future.

You’ll need an Ethernet cable to connect the Bobber 500 to the Internet. A Bobber 500 Helium 5G gateway with an indoor Small Cell can deliver 220Mbps downlink and 12Mbps uplink, however it must be hooked into a high-speed internet connection. The performance and mining capability of the Small Cell will be impacted if it is installed in a place with reduced throughput.

Because the Bobber 500 Helium 5G may also be used as a normal Helium hotspot, users should keep them at least 350 meters apart. If you already have a Helium miner installed in a location that could be ideal for cellular data offload, we recommend relocating it.

Keep in mind that most cellular radios only transport 30 percent of their peak throughput or less for the bulk of the time. It will not effect your internet performance if you have a good Internet connection. Keep in mind that consumers will be able to set a limit on how much data they want to dump.
